1. Low-Latency AI Inference for Real-time Gaming on GameLift


    With Amazon GameLift, you can deploy, operate, and scale dedicated servers for session-based multiplayer games. For low-latency AI inference in real-time gaming, you can use an AWS service such as Amazon SageMaker to deploy machine learning models on fleets in GameLift. However, the actual implementation of AI inference logic within your game sessions running on GameLift depends heavily on the architecture of your game and how it communicates with your machine learning models.

    To get started with deploying a fleet on GameLift for your gaming servers, you will typically need a build or a script. A build contains your game server binaries and associated files, whereas a script references a location in Amazon S3 where your game server's custom script is stored. Below is an example of how you can create a basic GameLift fleet using Pulumi in Python.

    This Pulumi program will:

    1. Create a GameLift build, where your game binaries are stored.
    2. Define a fleet that specifies the server configuration and the game session details.
    3. Configure a scaling policy to manage the number of instances based on demand.
    4. Specify runtime configurations for the game server processes.

    Let's define the GameLift build and a fleet with some basic configurations.

    • Creates a new GameLift build (aws.gamelift.Build) by referencing the uploaded game binaries stored in an S3 bucket. You would replace 'my-game-bucket' and 'my-game-build' with your S3 bucket name and build object key respectively. The role_arn parameter is the ARN of the IAM role that GameLift will assume when accessing the S3 objects.

    • Sets up the fleet (aws.gamelift.Fleet) definition, which will host game sessions. We specify the build ID from the previously created build, the desired instance type to host the game server, runtime configurations, and network permissions. The runtime configuration describes how the server processes should be managed on each instance. We've also set a new game session protection policy to prevent newly created sessions from being terminated if the fleet is scaled down.

    • An important note: in production, the ip_range should be restricted to limit access to your game servers.
