The gcp:bigqueryanalyticshub/listingIamPolicy:ListingIamPolicy resource, part of the Pulumi GCP provider, manages IAM access control for BigQuery Analytics Hub listings. This guide focuses on three approaches: authoritative policy replacement, role-level binding management, and incremental member addition.
Analytics Hub listings are shared datasets published in data exchanges. The three IAM resources (ListingIamPolicy, ListingIamBinding, ListingIamMember) offer different levels of control but cannot be used together in conflicting ways. ListingIamPolicy is fully authoritative and replaces all permissions; ListingIamBinding manages one role authoritatively; ListingIamMember adds individual members non-authoritatively. The examples are intentionally small. Choose the resource that matches your access control needs.
Replace the entire IAM policy for a listing
When you need complete control over who can access a listing, set the entire IAM policy at once.

The ListingIamPolicy resource replaces any existing policy on the listing. The policyData property comes from the getIAMPolicy data source, which defines bindings (role-to-members mappings). The project, location, dataExchangeId, and listingId properties identify which listing to control. This approach is authoritative: any permissions not in policyData are removed.
Grant a role to multiple members at once
When multiple users need the same access level, bind them all to a single role without affecting other roles.

The ListingIamBinding resource manages one role authoritatively. The members array lists all principals who should have this role; anyone not in the list loses it. Other roles on the same listing remain unchanged. This is useful when you manage one role (like roles/viewer) but want other teams to control different roles independently.
Add a single member to a role incrementally
When you need to grant access to one user without disturbing existing permissions, add individual members.

The ListingIamMember resource adds one member to one role non-authoritatively. Existing members for this role are preserved. The member property uses IAM principal syntax (user:email, serviceAccount:email, group:email). This is the safest approach when multiple teams manage access to the same listing, since it only adds permissions without removing others.

These snippets focus on specific IAM management approaches: authoritative policy replacement, role-level binding management, and incremental member addition. They’re intentionally minimal rather than full access control solutions.
The examples reference pre-existing infrastructure such as BigQuery Analytics Hub listings (identified by project, location, dataExchangeId, and listingId). They focus on configuring access control rather than creating the listings themselves.
To keep things focused, common IAM patterns are omitted, including:
- Conditional IAM bindings (condition blocks)
- Custom role definitions
- Service account impersonation
- Policy conflict resolution strategies
